Attempting to print from the native Windows Photo app was producing a rather unhelpful “configuration error” message, even though it had previously been working fine.
The solution was to locate printconfig.dll (to be found somewhere under the windows\system32\spool folder) and copy it to the drives3 folder within the same area.
